Taiko ensemble Kodo and composer Koshiro HINO spent one month on the small island of Sado to create music together. Toshiaki TOYODA captures this collaboration in a mesmerizingly edited work, complementing Kodo’s powerful performance with shots of the snow-clad nature surrounding them, with gods and spirits lurking everywhere.

About Toshiaki TOYODA

Toshiaki TOYODA was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1969 and began his film career as a screenwriter for Junji SAKAMOTO. His directorial debut PORNOSTAR (1998 / NC ‘00) won him the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award. He won the NIPPON CONNECTION NEWCOMER AWARD with BLUE SPRING (2002 / NC ‘02). Nippon Connection has shown many other of his works, including THE BLOOD OF REBIRTH (2009 / NC ‘10), I’M FLASH (2012 / NC ‘13), THE MIRACLE OF CRYBABY SHOTTAN (2018 / NC ‘19), and THE DAY OF DESTRUCTION (2020 / NC ‘21).
