After her husband’s suicide, Yumiko moves with her son to a fishing village and remarries. She initially takes to country life, but old wounds soon reopen. In his feature debut, Hirokazu KOREEDA confronts human emotions of grief, loss, and acceptance with a sensitivity that makes him one of his generation’s most eminent filmmakers.

About Hirokazu KOREEDA
Hirokazu KOREEDA was born in Tokyo in 1962, and after studying literature at Waseda University he began directing TV documentaries. He switched to feature-film directing in 1995 and has since won several international prizes, including awards at the film festivals in Cannes, Venice, and San Sebastián.
